Son recopilaciones de varios comentarios encontrados en internet. Valga decir que he probado casi todo con el fin de hacerlo funcionar en XP y Linux Mandriva(Xsane) pero de momento no lo he logrado. Lo ultimo que tengo pensado probar es el adaptador de corriente, dado que en el scanner pone 12V 1.25A y mi adaptador es de 12V 1.20A. Deduzco esto porque cuando xp intenta conectarse el brazo de la lampara para moverla(el scanner hace como un minibailoteo de nopuedo no puedo ), como un amago de que me muevo...Veremos(seguro que son los drivers). Cualquier opinion/exposicion colaborativa es bienvenida.
Recientemente compre de segunda mano este scanner por 10€ (en USA he visto que lo vendian por 10$...) Y me esta jodiendo tanto que he hecho este blog.

I have just recently been given an hp scanjet 4200 c which my daughter doesn't use anymore. When I scanned my pictures, there were yellow lines which appeared on the copied image. What can I do?
Aqui un tal terricola dice que escanea imagenes!! pero que le salen algunas lineas, (seguro que en 98) joer macho al menos te "escanea" algo nen.
Mensajes de error de las aplicaciones:

Luego por las aplicaciones HP Software HP PrecisionScan LT y los progrmas en E:\SCANJET\PrecisionScanLT\hpipcopy.exe y tal
dan el siguiente mensaje:
Imposible encontrar el escaner...
sin un escaner conectado a su PC ...
y luego si dices que SI te da el error de que "el archivo por omision esta dañado o faltantevuelva a instalar el software de exploracion 2087 toma castaña pesadilla HP.
Propongo crear una lista de usuarios de XP a los que les funciona el HP scanjet 4200C creo que acabariamos antes.

My computer doesn't recognize my scanner, and I don't know if it's something about settings/configuration/software, or maybe my scanner's broken down.
I have a desktop running Windows 98, and a laptop running Windows XP.
My scanner, a HP Scanjet 4200C, was working OK with my desktop, and at some point stopped working. I don't know exactly what happened, because I was abroad when that happened. I only know that the person who was using my desktop couldn't make the scanner work anymore. When I checked my computer several weeks later, I couldn't make it work either. I checked the usual stuff (USB ports, AC power, re-installing drivers and software, etc, etc). I downloaded the latest drivers and software from www.hp.com. No luck. Same problem. Finally, I formatted my hard disk and re-installed everything again. No luck. Same problem.
Now I tried with my laptop, running Windows XP. I couldn't install the original software from the CD that came with the scanner (not compatible with Windows XP), so I downloaded the latest version from www.hp.com (sj655en, 34.7 MB) and installed it. Then I plugged my scanner and... same problem!!!
The problem is exactly the same in both cases (desktop w/Win 98 and laptop w/Win XP). Software and drivers are installed OK. When I plug the scanner (USB connection), the system detects new hardware and recongnize it. When I go to control panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager, I can see the scanner, it doesn't have any ! or ? sign, and when I click on it and see the details, it says that the scanner is working properly. And when I click on Drivers, they're there, and it seems they're recognized.
If I check Control Panel - Scanners and Cameras, my scanner is there.
But if I click on that link, or if I enter the HP PrecisionScan LT software, I get the message that I don't have any scanner connected to the computer, or the system can't detect it, etc, etc
It's not the USB connection/port, because I tried with different cables and ports, and in those ports I use other USB devices with no problem.
It's not the AC power either, because the scanner lamp is green.
When I start the computer, the scanner makes the usual "funny" noise.
Any suggestions? Snif. Snif.

Cuando tuve que comprarme un scaner me di cuenta de la gran cantidad de marcas y precios a los que se puede optar, normalmente lo que uno anda fijandose es en la resolución que es capaz de sacar el aparatejo, y seguramente por eso me compre el HP 4200C, ahora que ya lo tengo un tiempo, la verdad es que puedo decir que no encuentro grandes diferencias con otros que había usado con anterioridad.
A la hora de escanear una foto, mientras mayor resolucíon le pones, mayor cantidad de granulos y pequeñas inperfecciones de esta, salen a la luz, con lo que al final decides no aumentar la resolución.
Entre las ventajas importantes que ofrece este scaner esta su interface, como siempre los interfaces de HP, son muy vistosos y muy faciles de utilizar, con este scaner con tan solo darle a una tecla ya te escanea la foto.
Además, y esto creo que es muy importante, tiene tecnología USB en vez de paralelo, con lo cual el scaneo de una fotografia es muy rápido, mucho mas que con el paralelo.
Sin embargo, y en el lado negativo, nos encontramos con que este escaner no podemos decir que sea barato, es mas bien tirando a lo caro, unas 24000 pelas, con este precio yo recomendaria a la gente que se comprara uno de otra marca, menor resolución y considerablamente mas barato, ya que los resultados que obtendrá no tendrán mucho que envidiar a los de este.
Otra ventaja de este escaner, es que no es un mamotreto, es mas, tiene una forma chafadita, no como los canon, pero si bastante mas pequeño que los de otras marcas mas baratas, lo cual hace que tampoco parezca que tengas un animal encima de la mesa.
Y nada mas, ahora es cosa vuestra.

el pavo biene ha decir que con sj656mu.exe (solucion para 4300 puede qe valida para 4200, por probar...) se quita el mensaje de "no se puede encontrar escaner" pero en windows 2003 bufff
Real joke...
1) Install SJ657EN.exe (or your language???) into XP. Running it just extracts it to a folder. You must also run the SETUP.EXE after the extract to actually install.
2) Install (i.e just double-click) SJ656mu.exe to fix stupid "can't find scanner" problems when actually running the software.
This is what I had to do to get it running in Win2k3 (no supplied drivers in 2k3).
I assume this is the same problem as in XP...
p.s.
DO NOT have scanner hooked up until told to by the SJ657 software...
To get the files just go to WWW.HP.COM and search on "Scanjet 4300c". EVERYTHING you need is there.

I have 2 users on my WinXP (SP2) system and installed an HP Scanner (4200C).
It runs fine on my Power Account but when I switch to the Limited account I
immediately get the message "Still Image Devices Utility has encountered a
problem and needs to shut down". The error message it is about to send
mentions hplamp.exe so I removed it (it's just to turn the lamp off after a
period of no use), but removing it does not allow the scanner to work in the
limited account -- I get the message "There is a problem with registry
settings -- they have been reset to default value". I cleanly uninstalled
the scanner software, removed all the related files and installed the latest
version but that problem does not go away. I know this is an HP problem but
there is no help to be had there so maybe a WinXP person can help.
